This is a Coptic binding, as perfected by the Copts (a pre-Islamic Egyptian Christian sect), and attempted by me. The painting on the front is of a North Korean postage stamp, from my pretty random stamp collection. I scanned and enlarged it, then traced the outlines onto the book using transfer paper. Then it was just about 375 hours of painting, and voila.
