In order to receive the full theological benefit of walking the Camino, you must travel a certain distance (for walkers, the last 100 kilometers before Santiago). To verify that you have done this, you are supposed to get a sello, or stamp, in your pilgrim's passport every day you are on the trail. Sellos are available from many places: Every refugio has its own, and so do
most churches, some historical sites, and even a few bars. One of the more famous is the little old
lady outside Logroņo offering "Higos, Agua, y Amor" ("Figs, Water, and Love") in addition to her own
stamp. These are a few of the sellos in my pilgrim's passport. |
