I made about 25 of these small books (about three inches high by two-and-a-half wide) as Christmas cards in 2001. I was pretty depressed by our national bloodlust, and the texts I chose were a response to that: the passage from Luke describing the birth of Christ, a poem by Christina Rossetti, and a pungent 1967 essay by Dorothy Day entitled "In Peace Is My Bitterness Most Bitter." The stamps on the front covers are assorted Christmas stamps from the 1960s and '70s.
